The ACT is a college readiness assessment that measures student achievement in English, reading, mathematics, science, and writing. Results provide students with information to support college and career planning.
We believe assessment is an important part of understanding student learning and growth. Assessments provide students, families, and educators with information that helps celebrate accomplishments, identify areas for improvement, and guide decisions that support student success.
Assessments are one piece of the larger picture of student achievement. We use multiple measures, including classroom learning, teacher feedback, student work, and formal assessments, to understand each student's progress and provide meaningful support.
| The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires all states to test all students in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics in grades 3-8 and once in high school. ESSA also requires students be assessed in Science once each grade span (3-5, 6-9, and 10-12 grades). Wisconsin State statute also requires students to take grade 9 and 10 assessments as well as the social studies test. These tests together create the Wisconsin Student Assessment System. Student performance on these assessments is reported in proficiency categories and student performance on ELA and mathematics assessments is used for accountability determination at the school, district, and state levels. |
District testing is used to measure student learning, check if learning meets academic standards, and help teachers improve their lessons. It gives our district a clear way to see what students know and where they need extra help.
