Our recent school trip to Quito, Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands was an incredible educational experience for our students. The trip, through EF Tours, aimed to provide them with a deeper understanding of the unique biodiversity and cultural heritage of this region. In Quito, the capital city of Ecuador, our students had the opportunity to explore the rich history and vibrant culture. They visited historical sites such as the Old Town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and learned about the city's colonial past. Additionally, they interacted with the local community, engaging in cultural exchanges and immersing themselves in the traditions and customs of the Ecuadorian people. The highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the visit to the Galápagos Islands, a living laboratory of biodiversity. Our students were amazed by the diverse range of species they encountered, many of which are found nowhere else on Earth. They had the chance to observe the famous Galápagos tortoises, marine iguanas, blue-footed boobies, and other unique wildlife up close. Through guided tours and educational activities, they learned about the delicate balance of the ecosystem and the ongoing conservation efforts to protect these extraordinary islands. The trip also provided numerous opportunities for personal growth and development. Our students learned to adapt to new environments, work collaboratively in group activities, and develop a sense of responsibility towards the environment and local communities. They returned with a greater appreciation for the natural world and a desire to make a positive impact in their own lives. Overall, the trip to Quito and the Galápagos Islands was a resounding success. It not only broadened our students' knowledge and understanding of the world but also instilled in them a sense of wonder and respect for the environment. We are confident that this experience will have a lasting impact on their personal and academic growth. We look forward to our 2025 trip! Since 2021 Oostburg 3rd and 4th graders have been growing marigold plants during their hydroponics unit in the spring. 🌱 Students take the plants home and care for them over the summer and then bring seeds from the flowers back to school in the fall. Those same seeds are then planted in the hydroponics unit the following spring and the circle of life continues. Students brought the spring 2023 marigolds home this week. 😍🪴 #BoostTheOost
